Chick Magnet

Remember I was telling you about this guy friend who introduced the lady insurance agent to me hoping to get some business and I asked him if she was his girlfriend to which he said “no”? I was actually quite disappointed to hear that. Not because of the matter regarding insurance but because he is my last bachelor friend left in the group. God knows I have tried to hook him up. Either they were too tall (he’s quite short), too skinny, too fat, too noisy..the list goes on and on and on.

It’s not like he is a loner or that he gets tongue tied in front of girls. In fact, he used to be (still is) very socially active back in school. He was the one who was everybody’s “pet brother” during those days. His popular status with the girls was so famous that even the editor of his school year book honoured him with a special page for being the most desirable guy.

He was everywhere, at parties, school social functions. Everyone thought it was really cool to invite him to parties. His presence made their parties cool. It’s like, if he doesn’t show up, no one would want to go to your party. His endorsement is like the google pagerank. You need him to be there for people to even show up. He is that popular. Needless to say, he would be the guy who gets lots of flowers during Valentines, chocolates, letters from girl admirers. He was Mr. O’ Popular.

If I told you that he never ever had a girlfriend you would be shocked. How could a guy like him not been out on a date? It’s true. He hasn’t and even until now when most of us are already married with kids, he’s still partying like it was 1999. He has no difficulty in attracting beautiful woman. In fact, his friends used to seek his advice on how to get a girl. He was their dating guru. They even consulted him on how to write secret love letters. I wonder if he charged them a fee?

His problem was I think he knew too much. He knew how to pick up a beautiful woman with ease. He then became bored. There’s no longer the challenge. There was not a single woman that rejected his advances. Once he gets hold of them, he drops them in a flash. Oh my God!! I think he is gay!!

PR Issue…Not Again!!??

My itchy fingers tell me not to continue with this but my itchy head tells me otherwise. So, who do I follow? My head of course cos my fingers are tired from writing pp :P

If you have been around the sphere, people aren’t happy. People are upset. They might just tear down G’s building, burn the damn network. All because of the PR issue. On the other hand, the very same people are going around town explaining and posting that the PR doesn’t affect them as the blog is theirs, traffic is abundance etc…So, why bother?

The truth is, PR DOES MATTER and especially for those who are monetizing their blogs. Yup, there have been many who have blogged about how one shouldn’t rely on the dreaded PR but to look at the number of traffic the blog gets. Yet, they are perturbed by the PR movement. The thing is, PR is still highly regarded as a measure of a blog’s popularity (whether we like it or not) just a a big car is a measure of wealth.

It has been the measuring stick for a long time for both bloggers and advertisers to a point that it is quite impossible to disregard it as much as both want to. It is easier for the bloggers though as they can simply looking at their statistics and the number of comments they get daily to know if they are still popular or not. The PR therefore is good to have. Then why do bloggers feel affected? The only reason I can think of is because it is not them who is going to value their own worth, it is the advertisers.

The advertisers will not know what your statistics are like neither are they going to inspect each and every blog to count the number of comments they receive for each post. Besides, the number of comments isn’t a true reflection of a blog’s popularity anyways because there are blogs without a single comment could very well be a busy blog. The problem seem to be that the advertisers are not going to micro every blog, they are just looking at blogs on a macro perspective. That’s why advertisers continue to use PR as their tool. Its easy, convenient and someone has already done the hard work.

People will continue to argue that it doesn’t make sense since they see plenty of visitors (the silent and the noisy) daily but yet, they’ve been told that they are not good enough or not as popular as they thought. Surely that has got to hurt, even for a little bit.
