Blogging = Mingling

Filed Under Blogging

I don’t believe this hilarious real life incident. A friend tried her hands in blogging to meet people recently like a social network. Funny how she used to laugh when I told her about my blog. Laughed but did not criticize. Its ok, I can take a little skepticism.

In the recent months, she expressed her interest in having a blog of her own. Naturally, I was surprised but you know, a blogger will always support another fellow blogger. Its never mandatory but its a “good” thing to do. Of course, I helped her with choosing the host and interim design (she is free to change it if she wants to) and a little bit here and there.

She is having fun. Often staying up late to write up a blog post. Initially, she was writing up to 3 blog post in a day! LOL…I told her to slow down and not get too excited otherwise she would’ve exhausted all her stories. Like I mentioned, another aspect which I think why she loves the blogging idea is the opportunity to meet people. Not literally speaking but figuratively. Blogging allows you access (otherwise impossible) to people all over the world

There are many ways to do this i.e interact with people via blogging. For starters, you can blog-hop. That is quite the usual way. Another would be to engage in forums. Helping or sharing ideas with fellow bloggers. Don’t forget to leave your site URL so people can visit you back. Also, a popular place to meet people would be to join social networking community sites or blog directories. There are plenty of them around.

Safe travel

Filed Under Women, Thoughts

I’m sure you have seen groups of girls or women everywhere, huddling together sharing a good joke or simply doing the ultimate which they wouldn’t be classified as women if they don’t gossip and go on those fun cruises to do just that.

It has been a known fact that women tend to be more expressive with each other. They open up their feelings, lend their shoulder for each other to cry on and that is precisely why it has been said that women are resilient creatures even through trying times unlike their male counter-parts. When the women get together, they don’t just talk shop, they pour out their feelings and that is important to maintain a certain balance in life. A form of de-stressing. The best part is, Hawaii vacations seem to offer just that.

One of the many activities women embark on to de-stress is traveling together in groups of 2 or more. I personally feel that this is an exceptionally good idea to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life or the everyday routine and what better way to do it than by going somewhere unfamiliar, somewhere exotic or fun for a change. Somewhere like Hawaii where you can get a Hawaii vacation rental for a fairly reasonable price.

Having said that, whilst there are promises of plenty of fun during girly trips, one can never be too careful. As there are increasing number of group travels, there have also been an increase in number of missing cases involving these travellers. Be it missing luggage or missing persons, just like with our daily lives, its better to be safe than sorry but not over paranoid.

A couple of things you should take note before traveling such as :

1. Do research on the country and the tour itinerary you are interested in;

2. Be safe with your luggage with Pacsafe;

3. Always use travelers’ checks whenever you can;

4. Whenever you want to detour from your group, inform your tour guide or your friend where you’d be and when you’d be back. Don’t wander too far off.

The list isn’t exhaustive but they are a few key points that you should take note cos after all, traveling is supposed to be a way to de-stress and have fun. Certainly not meant to be restrictive and worrisome for the intended travelers. So, take it in stride, have fun and remember that safety should always not be taken for granted of.

Get the scoop from Playphone.com

21-movie-poster-kevin-spacey-kate-bosworth1.jpgThink Rain Man and Ocean’s Eleven.

The latest heist in town – 21 Movie.

Ben Campbell is a brilliant student at MIT who dreams of Harvard Medical. However, to qualify for the coveted Harvard scholarship, his essay must ‘dazzle’! Pretty daunting eh? Well, until he meets his professor who has ‘part-time’ work with his students. Every weekend, Mickey Rosa, Ben’s professor, takes a couple of his students to Las Vegas where they count cards to win money and splits the win thereafter.

Seeing as how he needed a whopping $300 grand, he agreed and joined in the ‘fun’. Things however, took an ugly turn when the team loses a huge amount of money in one night which saw to the parting of Mickey and Ben. Worst..with Ben now leading the team. Mickey, obviously feeling dejected and seeking revenge, reports them to the casino security.

Wanna find out more? You have to catch 21 Movie. Its no fun for me to spill the entire bottle of beans. I had already spilled right about half. I always hate it when people reveal the ending of a movie I intend to watch and I’ll be darned if I am gonna do it now to you guys. Nope, ain’t happening here mister! Its worth a watch really, if you are into casino flicks.

Incidentally, if you are crazy over Jim Sturgess’ accent (did you know he is English?) or Kate Bosworth and I must say a movie targeted to young viewers, you can simply get your 21 Movie Ringtones from Playphone.com.

All that glitters IS gold!

Filed Under Luv it, Hate it, Goss

I am usually pretty lax about lots of things, but if there is one thing that I am spot on is spotting a GREAT.

Take for instance, I am a fan of Mariah Carey ever since she burst on the music scene with Vision of Love. At first I thought she was Whitney on radio but there’s a distinct difference in the voice. I listened a little longer to hear the DJ announce the name of the singer and that was how I knew. I was “wow-ed” and immediately put my mark on her being the next recording super star.

And a super star she was. She broke records and very smartly got married to one of the biggest recording label mogul. Granted, that marriage didn’t last, fell ill and she was even dropped by Virgin Records signifying the slump of her music career.

I am not going to talk at great lengths about Mariah because well, her story is pretty much well known by now and I will only be regurgitating what’s out there anyway. I will, instead tell you why I chose her or picked her as my “Great” even though I may not always agree with her music style or buy all her albums.

First of all, she writes her own songs. Whether single-handedly or a collaborative effort. I liked the fact that she’s involved musically and not merely sing songs that are written for her. To me, thats’ talent. Secondly, she received a lot of personal flak about her personal life and people also associated that down-hill slide with her professional life as well. But she was unfazed and had the emotional resiliance to silence all critiques when she bounced back with “Emancipation of Mimi” (which was, by the way, very aptly titled). The most important of all, I feel, is that while all of these were going on, she was never reported to do drugs or anything of that sort. She pretty much led a clean image throughout. Sexy does not count as bad, that’s just clever marketing.

I’m not saying that she’s the epitome of an ultimate role model for women but to me, I relate to her..her songs and accept the road she has taken (music wise). So, thats pretty much my reasons, what’s yours?

Incidentally, our Mimi has released a new album E=MC² which is also produced by the legendary LA Reid…I am already excited! Get it all..the exclusive interview and album preview with Soundcheck!

go horsey…

igallop.jpg

This is my latest craze..the OSIM igallop!

You must think I have gone absolutely bonkers up there but I am not! Its good actually. I tried on the display unit at one of those exercise store and I am impressed.

OK, for the uninitiated, the igallop is not a pretend horse that does not require saddles, its an exercise machine. Directed to automatically engage all muscle groups in the abs, back, seat, hips and legs or so they say. By exercising the core muscles, it impacts the strength, balance, appearance and fitness. Exactly what a slouch like me needs!

My only problem is (what? there IS even a problem after discovering the ultimate saviour machine?? Yes, my good people, there IS..and the problem here is how do I get the hubs to agree on getting this “horsey” exercise machine for me?…think people, THINK!

Sometimes, mom gives good advice…

Filed Under Women, Thoughts

In most cases, yes my mom do but half of the time, I think she listens to what others have to say far too much. Is my mom the only one like that or is it a trait of a woman. I think it is because we women always inferior and the weaker sex. For some reason, we seem to place that extra pressure on ourselves just to prove that we can ‘do a good job. My hubby told me before that women are the ones with the ego problem and they actually have the world’s biggest ego..LOL…somehow, I can’t help but to agree.

As much as we don’t want to admit the fact but subconsciously we always feel the need to do better and be better than everyone, to be perfect. We need to be the perfect mom, cook, employee or business woman. There is just no room for mistakes and we are often very anal about the nitty gritty. We mirco-manage everything in our lives and one wrong move, could spell a whole world of trouble. That means no validation from our counter-parts or peers and this “validation” is crucial as to why we are, who we are in the first place. We need to hear that “Wow, you are great!”, “Good job” or “No one can do it any better than you”. Its more of a female thing than a male thing.

So, my mom perhaps not the very high end of the female spectrum, but she still needs validation from her kids, husband and family in general. I would often hear things like “Eat your fruits, so and so, says so” or “walk straight up or you’ll need a posture corrector just like so and so’s daughter”. Often referring to someone and so and so…there was never something that she felt strongly about or it came from her. I wished she had though. I wished to had the will and the courage to believe and because of the generation she was in I.e the male dominance, my father, she always felt weaker. You know, if she knew what we know now or had access to the multitude of information about being confident, being secure, I think she would’ve done really well. She is improving but because of her age, I doubt that will go very far. There’s still a glimmer of hope, isn’t there?

Miracle figure

Filed Under Women, Thoughts

When I first heard about this, I had absolutely no clue what it was but now I do.

A new age slimming pills called miracleburn. The upside is, apparently the pricing and possibly the free trial. But if you ask me personally, ingredients are important as well. They use ingredients like Hoodia and Advantra-Z but don’t tell you how much is inside.

Losing weight or staying slim is pretty much an old issue with women. Its an image booster or self esteem issue that goes back a long way. Doesn’t help with society still branding “skinny” women as beautiful. You don’t see an over-size model walking on the runway parading Prada do you? However, the reality is that, real people are not that “perfect”. We don’t have perfect skin, teeth and certainly not our bodies.

Its sad. No one promotes inner beauty. Its all on the outside and that is pretty unfortunate. Until and unless we can change the mindset of society to look for inner beauty, slimming pills or diet programmes will always be searched for by women to combat weight issues. Like I said, wanting to stay slim or have that perfect body is much sought after.
