Newbie

24Oct07

I am a newbie to the blogging society for obvious reasons. Just take a look at my archive. Count the number of comments to my posts and please exclude mine. Then again, how do you classify a blogger as a “newbie” or a ‘professional’? Was I right? How do we know who are the professionals and who isn’t or a semi-professional? I don’t think quitting your job and blog full time constitutes being a professional blogger. I mean, I don’t have a job and basically I am doing this full time but the general consensus will be that I am no where near being classified a “professional blogger”.

So who or what actually determines whether a blogger is a newbie or a professional blogger? I mean, to be a professional accountant, there is an accreditation body that certifies you as an accountant. Is there something similar for our blogging society. Do we have a Professional Blogging Body that we can subscribe to virtually and a tests for us to take and a certificate handed out once we have passed the test?

I am puzzled but then, plenty would say that the newbie definition is simple straight forward one. As long as you are new to the blogsphere, you are a newbie. Is that it? I don’t know.

Ok, lets look at a few scenarios and perhaps you tell me, which blogger constitutes a ‘newbie’ :

1. Blogger A

Started blogging 3 months ago but having his comment box filled to the brim and makes even a profesional blogger looking like an amateur.

2. Blogger B

Started blogging 6 years ago. Kept his blog private to a few individual but only recently, started to go public with his blog. Comment box close to nil. Ok, maybe, give or take, 5.

3. Blogger C

Started blogging years ago. Made quite a name. Quit the blogging scene for a year but returned with a new blog. Different theme, different platform but the same personality.
