Why Do I Blog?
Helen answered this and I felt like joining in just for the fun of it. Let me begin by telling you a little history about how I started to blog in the first place.
Believe it or not, my blogging rendezvous began many years ago, in 2003. I started out as a commentator but I was no ordinary commentator. I was an impostor. I disguised as a guy named Victor. What happened was, this friend of mine W had a bunch of old school mates he hangs out with till today. One of W’s friends, K, had a blog but this blog was sort of a private blog for his rants and raves. Only the privileged few were allowed to view his blog. W asked me to impersonate Victor cos K and Victor had a little history back in school. K was scared of Victor. So, everytime I commented on any of K’s post, he would get all worked up and started to question his buddies about who this Victor is or was I really his nemesis, Victor.
That stint was short lived since K deleted his entire blog after blogging for a little less than a year because he got bored with it. I guess he didn’t know about making money from blogs then huh? As for me, I left the blogging scene if you would call it that. It wasn’t much of an exposure. I was merely commenting almost anonymously. That was then. I was young.
I stopped work a few months after I got pregnant. It wasn’t a smooth pregnancy for me and work didn’t help either so I left. It wasn’t an easy decision and initially, I worked from home (upon request). I stopped completely after I delivered. It was during the time of my pregnancy that I stumbled upon Mom Writes. She was also a mom with 2 adorable kids. Her post about a family with 16 children got me hooked on her blog. I mentioned I was working from home then so I only read her blog intermittently and never thought anything of starting my own as my boss continued to pursue the option of me going back to work full-time. The negotiation wasn’t successful so I quit for good.
During the first 4 months of my new job as a mom, I didn’t have time for anything. If you are a mom or have been a mom, you would know. I had my hands full. Apart from that, I was staying with my in laws during that time. When I moved back to my place, things started to ease up a little. I was getting the hang of taking care of my kid and boredom started to settle in. I love my mommy role but I also miss my other role. I remembered Mary and I resumed reading her blog. That sort of gave me an idea. I thought, why not start a blog of my own, a mommy blog. I could write down my thoughts, chronicle our lives and share information. Hopefully, get to meet some moms along the way. As you can see by now, this journey of mine did not include my real friends. They thought I was crazed hahah…
Apart from Mary’s blog, I also read the Mix FM blog where Shazmin blogged about her life. She then had her own blog which she now updates from. There were comments on her blog and I started to blog hop to her commentators’ blog and discovered an entire colony of Malaysian bloggers. I thought “wow, where have I been all these years?”. I must be the most outdated person/blogger on earth. I took solace in the fact that none of my friends blog (they could be doing facebook, I don’t know), that made me feel better.
So, here I am. While blog hopping, I realised people were earning money from their blogs. I actually thought they were crazed..How does the concept even work? Slowly by observing, I had some idea. Then, again, I must be the most outdated person/blogger. Along the way, I met Helen, my dear Helen. She was the first person who encouraged me to write paid post. Earning a little for my own. I didn’t think it was possible. I thought she was crazed..hehe..just kidding, Helen. I have met others who have been equally inspirational and encouraging on the whole, not only in terms of paid posting. I never realised that the spectrum of the Malaysian blogging world is so vast let alone the entire blogging universe. From this, I don’t think I made the wrong decision to have a blog and associate myself with these wonderful bloggers. Its one of the nicest things about blogging really, to interact with your fellow bloggers. I am not discounting the fact that participating in this paid post venture isn’t the reason for me to continue blogging. It is. No point telling the un-truth but beyond that, there is more to it.
To sum it up : I blog because I want to. I get to use my brains a little. Meet people (though not physically). Not sure if I get the chance to meet them in real life but its fun as it is.
So, why did I write such a long post then? If I didn’t my “why do I blog?” post will just be a one liner and that wouldn’t be pretty, now would it?

I really didn’t think you started your blogging journey as an imposter. SUmmore Viktor wor.. Thank God I didn’t fall for Viktor online. lol
Earning a little on the side is sweet. You are right about that.
Making friends and getting to be heard is the allure of blogging.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I wish you many many more blogging days.
