The new year shouldn’t begin with news such as this.

No it shouldn’t…but…it has.You know, there are just too many tragedies lately. So much that at times, the human spirit is weak and frightened.

But, I am positive that times can only be better. At least I do hope so.

In the meantime, lets pray for our friends in Haiti who have lost their loved ones, their homes, their lives.

What is this about the “summer” that most people talk about and its this time of the year that people love so much. Ok, well, some may love spring or autumn or whatever but personally, and coming from a place that is summer all.year.long, I find ‘summer’ a tad too hot for me.

If I lived somewhere that has the 4 seasons in a year, winter would have been my favourite time of the year. I may not like it for very long but from what I see on those Amazon books, the wintery shots are super amazing. Hey, maybe that’s why they are called “Amazon”…hehehhe…

As I know it, summer is coming to an end. Or probably has ended already and the fall has kicked in. I’m not sure. But, if I had any say at all where I want to go for my next vacation and when to go, it will be somewhere I can celebrate a white christmas. That’ll be lovely, wouldn’t it?

A pretty ordinary photo of the train station at Lugano.

Didn’t think much of it at first but when I came back, sat down and looked through the images I took (including this one), I felt it needed something. And oh, I can tell you that looking through the insane amount of photos you can take during your holiday can really make you go a little nuts. True, even worst than going through weight loss supplements reviews (if you ever need to that is).

So anyway, I was pretty much stumped when it came to the above photo. It looks just fine as it is but something seemed to be missing. It needed an additional ‘spice’ of some sort.

And so, this is what I came up with :

I’m not sure what is it about this photo that keeps me going back for more.

I still don’t know.

Perhaps its the old man in focus vis-a-vis the couple in the background – the old and the young; or

the past is left behind, ie him being young and foolishly in love once and now he’s alone, walking by himself though not unhappy but alone.

Or it could mean nothing of the above; it was simply a random shot of sorts.

Sometimes I feel that it needs a little texture, to dramatize it somewhat.

Ah..nah, I think I’ll leave it as it is. It’s nice to have un-tampered shots once in a while.

Speaking of shots, I can’t believe that it has been a year now since I’ve started this hobby. Well, I’m not exactly a serious hobbyist. Just enjoying a nice shoot whenever time permits. Lets face it, photography is a rich man’s game..and I am not rich..neither am I a man (sic!). I don’t own expensive or impressive gears.

But, I am liking it. I feel that I am improving; which is a good thing. All I need to do now is to make sure I don’t lose the momentum. Else, I might end up like the old man wondering what might have been..

Which would it be?

It takes alot of effort and courage to stick by your principles but succumb to greed so easily.

We often teach our kids to have or cultivate all the good human values; be polite, be courteous, be honest, be genuine…but as adults, do we really exhibit all of that? I find it strange yet accepting of the fact that as we grow older, we are so caught up with the ways of the world and everything beneficial that were taught by our parents or teachers or whoever goes down fast to the drain. It’s as if we never learnt anything at all.

I’m sure it’s been said often enough but no one really pays any attention to it. All is required really is some initiative on our part to take that small step to change and have the strength to be different….It only takes one small step and I believe it will go a long way and make all the difference in the world.

Lets do that this Christmas. Or have it top priority in your New Year’s resolution…lets make a difference.
