Just jotting down as a reminder :

1. Travel light – more often than not, the places that you go to will have most of the stuff you need. So, pack neccessarily not un-neccessarily.

2. List down important items – things such as your essentials, vitamins, motion and air-sickness pills (if they are needed). I usually bring along a couple of traditional chinese ointments and pills, for quick relief on emergency. A small umbrella or rain-coat might also be an essential item because of the un-predictable weather these days.

3. Reserve your flight seating as soon as possible. You don’t want to be placed near the window or too far behind or near where the wings are. That’s where it gets loud. Opt for isle seats because even though, it isn’t as private or cosy, it’ll get you to the loo alot more quicker. Of course, this only applies if you are traveling in economy. I doubt business or first class will be such inconvenience.

4. Make sure you have adequate travel insurance and preferably from a renowned insurance company. It’s not a joke. I remembered a story told by a friend that her cousin went on a jungle trekking adventure and was stuck out somewhere. Lost in the wilderness and needed to be air-lifted. They all had travel insurances but were divided in terms of the company that they bought from. Those who bought from Company A were flown to safety within that day itself whilst those who bought from Company B were left ‘hanging‘ (almost literally) for a couple of days before the chopper came. So, you see, sometimes it pays to get premium coverage and from a more reputable firm.

5. Be familiar in advance with the rules on what you can take with you to your particular destination. You don’t want your one and only skin-care to be consficated now, would you?

6. If you can, don’t carry cash. If you have to, just bring along a nominal amount; enough to get you from the airport to the hotel, for your daily rides and food. Bring instead traveller’s checks and put your purchases on credit. It is safer that way. Trust me.

Well, that’s all I can think of at the mo. You could add more if you wish at the comments section — I would love to add them onto my list.

Good advice. I hope someday to be able to say I comply with #1…I always, always over pack!
